Gold Sustainability Award

Foley Equipment proudly accepted a Gold Award in Sustainability for 2018 from the Kansas City Industrial Council (KCIC) on October 4th.  The award program’s goal is to recognize and promote sustainable practices by companies within the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Foley Power Solutions, the energy-focused division of Foley Equipment, completed an installation of a 1,500-panel Cat® Thin Film rooftop solar array on their Kansas City facility in June 2018. The project represents the largest on-site solar installation for a commercial business in Kansas City, providing a third of the building’s power needs.  The award was based on the solar installation, as well as a wide-ranging set of energy saving initiatives throughout the building.

The solar array continues to meet or exceed all production and financial estimates, producing 172kW of renewable energy.  The anticipated financial return is approximately $23,000 in the first year and up to $1.25 million over the lifespan of the array, about 25 years.

“Utility costs have been rising over time,” said James Kerschinske, Foley Power Solutions Sales Manager.  “Businesses wishing to stay competitive in their market need to look at every cost to save money. One area that now makes sense is addressing the cost of electricity with renewables like solar.”

Foley Power Solutions has a long history in multiple areas of power generation, and wanted to show the viability of solar in the Kansas and Missouri marketplaces.  The success of the Kansas City facility has convinced Foley to install solar energy systems on Foley’s new facilities in Colby and Salina, KS in 2019.

“We use our solar array as a demonstration project that our customers can draw on when they are considering a solar installation themselves,” said Kerschinske.
