How does the trade process work?

We will begin by getting you in contact with the Foley representative for your location.  The rep will visit with you about your options for a replacement machine to fit your needs.  When you are ready to evaluate your trade-in option, the used equipment department will dispatch an inspector to complete an operational test of the machine.  Once the inspection is completed, our appraiser will evaluate the machine to establish your trade value.

How does the purchase process work?

Similar to the trade process, except we will make you a cash offer for your equipment.

How does the consignment process work?

We will begin by getting you in contact with the Foley representative for your location.  The rep will visit with you about pricing, your expectations, and how long you would like to consign the machine.  Once you have agreed on pricing and timeline, the used equipment department will dispatch an inspector to complete an operational test of the machine.  Once the inspection is completed, the report and pictures will be advertised throughout our dealer network as well as our advertising partners.  Our sales staff will work globally to sell your machine as quickly and profitably as possible.

How does the auction process work?

The process begins with connecting you with the Foley representative for your location.  The rep will work with you to determine timeline, transportation, and delivery time of new machine.  Customer retains ownership of machine until the auction is completed and all transportation costs, repair costs, etc. are the sole responsibility of owner/seller.  Foley handles the administration with the auction house and the proceeds of the auction (less any applicable auctioneer, etc. fees) are paid to Foley.  Once Foley receives payment, the funds are then applied as the trade-in value on the new machine.  We can also use this process for Like Kind Exchanges (LKE) as necessary with additional steps.

What type of machines qualify?

Primarily earthmoving construction equipment.  We are also interested in aerial equipment, industrial engines, air compressors, forklifts, generators, trailers, trenchers, etc.  If your equipment is designed for industrial applications, we are interested! We are generally not interested in cranes, ag equipment, and machines with major safety concerns.

Does it matter how old my machine is?

No.  Generally speaking, machine condition is more important than age or hours.  We are primarily interested in machines that are 10 years old or newer with less than 10,000 hours.  If you are curious if your machine will qualify, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Is there equipment that Foley will not buy?

Yes.  Generally speaking, we are not interested in cranes, machines with major safety concerns, salvage machines, combines, and other specialized ag equipment.  If you are uncertain if we will buy your equipment, please don’t hesitate to call us.

Do you accept other manufacturers such as Deere, Komatsu, Volvo, Case, Bobcat etc.?

Yes we buy and sell all brands.

Does the machine need to be located in Kansas or Missouri?

No.  We buy and sell machines nationally and internationally.

How long does the process take?

The duration of the process depends on which option you choose.  On average, the processing times are as follows:

  • Trade – Approximately a week depending on machine location and availability
  • Buy – Approximately a week depending on machine location and availability
  • Consignment – Varies. This could take as little as a week up to six months or longer depending on market conditions
  • Auction – Next auction of your choice + processing time
How are machine values established?

We have a team of highly experienced inspectors and appraisers that work together to establish pricing.  This team identifies needed repairs and then utilizes proprietary sales data, pricing tools, auction values, our dealer network, and a variety of other systems to determine market value.

How do you establish pricing on consignments?

We evaluate your machine and use our experience to recommend initial asking price.  Owner approves pricing prior to advertising.  Depending on your situation, pricing can be set toward the top end of market to maximize value or at the lower end of the market to expedite the sales process.  We will present any reasonable offers to owner for approval.

How will I get paid?

Payments can be made by check, bank transfer, or the funds can be applied to a new machine purchase.  We can also authorize bank wire transfers for an additional fee.

What if I have a lien against my machine?

We request that the seller provide Foley Equipment with a lien release from the financial institution who has interest in the machine.  When Foley receives the document, payment will be made to the seller.

Will you come pick up my machine?

Yes.  We will work together to identify the best transportation solution.

How does the inspection process work?

Our inspection process begins by getting you connected with the Foley representative for your location.  Next, we coordinate with you to get the machine inspected.  We can inspect the machines at our facility or at the current machine location.  If the machine is being inspected at its current location, we will dispatch a Foley inspector to visit the machine and do a full operational inspection.  Once the inspection is complete, a report is submitted back to our office where we establish pricing.

Should I repair my trade-in prior to purchase?

Machines that are in good operating condition with few needed repairs generally bring a higher price.  We have full service shops throughout our territory that we can work with to get machines repaired.  You can visit with your Foley representative to determine if repairs should be completed prior to trade or purchase.

Do you buy attachments?

Yes, depending on typed of attachment and condition.
